FOOD ADDICTION

TREATMENT CAN HELP FOOD ADDICTION
DEFINING

FOOD ADDICTION

Most people admit to having cravings for some types of food or liking one type of food so much that they eat it often. Food addiction is different than just cravings or eating your favorite food every week.

Some of the signs of food addiction are eating more than intended, past the point of fullness and satisfaction. Compulsive overeating is a type of addiction where a person derives great pleasure of eating and has lost their control over their behavior to limit themselves even when they are harming themselves.

FOOD ADDICTION

EFFECTS IN EVERY DAY LIFE

Food addiction can interfere in an individual’s personal life as well as their day to day functioning and physical health.

Due to the shame associated with addiction, people with a food addiction often eat privately, at night, and when they’re alone, isolating them from normal socialization.  They may also eat in excess to where they gain weight and incur medical problems associated with overeating such as diabetes.
