Anorexia nervosa, often just called anorexia, is a mental health disorder that is characterized by very low weight, typically less than 85% of normal body weight, a constant fear of gaining weight, and a distorted view of their own body or shape, often believing that they’re overweight or just out of shape.

There are two types of anorexia. The first is known as restricting which is when a person limits the amount of food they eat in order to lose weight. The second type of anorexia is known as binging and purging. This is when a person eats a large amount of food and then purges it by vomiting or taking laxatives.
